Dental Appointment Availability and Prioritisation

CAHS is committed to providing equitable access to dental services while managing high demand and limited appointment availability.

Appointments are prioritised using the following criteria:

  • Priority access to dental services is available for CAHS clients who have accessed CAHS services for 6–12 months or more, are a priority and/or primary client of the service for more than 12 months, and have a current CAHS Aboriginal Health Check, Adult Health Check or Child Health Check.

  • Clinical need, urgency and risk of deterioration.

  • Children, pregnant women and patients with chronic health conditions that may be impacted by poor oral health.

  • Patients requiring follow-up treatment or ongoing dental care plans.

  • Patients referred internally by CAHS clinicians as part of coordinated care.

While CAHS strives to provide dental services to as many community members as possible, demand often exceeds available appointments. A waiting list and cancellation list are maintained to maximise appointment availability and ensure appointments are offered to patients requiring care as quickly as possible.

Patients are encouraged to maintain regular contact with the service and keep their health checks up to date to support continuity of care and access to available services.
