Members
Condobolin Aboriginal Health Service (CAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) delivering culturally safe, holistic health and wellbeing services to Aboriginal people, families and the broader community.
Our company registration is with the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006.
As such we are governed by the Act and our rule book.
We are also a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) and must comply governance standards required of charities.
Community control of an Aboriginal Corporation such as CAHS occurs through membership. Members of CAHS can contribute ideas and feedback on how the organisation is run, participate in Board elections and are empowered to strengthen our ties with local community.
To be a member of CAHS you must be:
at least 18 years old
an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
Must have resided within the boundaries of the Condobolin district including the boundaries of the Condobolin Local Aboriginal Land Council and the area serviced by the Condobolin Aboriginal Health Service Corporation for a minimum of twelve months prior to their application for membership; and
membership is open to all members of the Aboriginal Community.
To become a member of CAHS, you need to apply. You must fill out an application form which is then approved by the Board of Directors. The Directors accept the application by resolution at a Board meeting.
Members Rights
A member can:
Attend, speak and ask questions at general meetings or AGM
Only financial members can:
Vote at general meetings or AGM
be made a director (if the member is eligible to be a director—see rule 5.3 on eligibility of directors)
put forward resolutions at general meetings, including under rule 4.6
ask the directors to call a general meeting under rule 4.3
members pass a resolution at a members’ meeting which approves it.
Only vote at a AGM or GM if they have paid their annual renewable fee of $3.00 by due date.
Members’ responsibilities
A member must:
comply with the CATSI Act and the corporation’s rule booklet the corporation know if they change their address within 28 days of the date of such change, in writing
comply with any code of conduct adopted by the corporation
treat other members with respect.
Pay a one-off joining fee of $3.00; and
Pay an annual renewal membership of $3.00 to be eligible to vote at AGM’s and General Meetings.
not behave in a way that significantly interferes with the operation of the corporation or of corporation meetings, including by allowing other members and the directors to speak, put forth ideas, suggestions and recommendations in an unthreatening environment.
Members should also attend general meetings (including AGMs) or give their apologies.
