Located at 99 Bathurst St, our GP service provides a wide variety of care for all ages, including management of acute and chronic diseases, health assessments, mental health care, preventative care, procedures and health education.

Our GPs and medical staff are trained in delivering client-centred services and lead all health treatments and programs for all our clients. Further screening, treatment and support as directed by our GP’s is delivered by our team of nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and other clinical support staff.

The GP clinic provides holistic primary health care including, women’s health, men’s health, child and maternal health, family planning, health checks, immunisations and vaccinations, pre-employment Medicals, and Sexual Health.

ALL SERVICES ARE BULK-BILLED.

GP Appointments are required. Walk-In clients are triaged by nurses or Aboriginal Health Practitioners/Workers prior to being seen by a GP.

    • Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Health Assessment (715)

    • GP Chronic Condition Management Plan

    • 75+ Health Assessment

    • Mini Mental State Examination

    • Mental Health Treatment Plan

    • Asthma Care Plan

  • ECG monitoring

  • Glucose monitoring

  • Diabetes management

  • Insertion/removal of Implanon

  • Spirometry

Patient Eligibility

As a community controlled Aboriginal Health Service, we receive funding from the Commonwealth and State Governments to provide health services specifically to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. For this reason, while we serve the whole community, we will prioritise access to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their direct family members.

Our appointment system

CAHS uses an appointment system which is made up of:

  1. Regular scheduled appointments with clinical and allied health staff.

  2. Emergency appointments, that are screened by our Clinic Lead and booked in on the same day, if deemed urgent.

  3. Walk-in appointments (where appointment time is available)

Please note walk-in appointments are not for:

  • Paperwork (non-urgent)

  • Referrals (non-urgent)

  • Work cover certificates

  • Recalls or results.

  • Owing scripts (pharmacy requested)

  • Comprehensive assessments (GPMP &/or 715)

CAHS sends all patients a SMS reminder at 2pm the day prior to appointments. Please ensure your contact mobile phone details are correct in our system.

Please contact the clinic if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment.

Patients are advised to bring their valid Medicare card with them for all clinical appointments at CAHS. After your appointment all patients are required to see reception to provide consent of Medicare’s assignment of benefits requirements.

  • You will see an Aboriginal Health Worker/Practitioner and a GP.

    • We have both male and female staff available.

    • It can take up to an hour for your initial consult.

  • When you arrive for your appointment, be sure you advise reception you are a new client. They will ask you for identification.

  • Have a yarn to reception about registering for MyMedicare with CAHS

  • If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment please phone us and let us know.

What you will need for your visit

  • Your Medicare card

  • Your health concession card, if you have one

  • Your pensioner concession card, if you have one

  • A list of medication/s you are currently taking

  • Completed new client form

Need assistance to get to our clinic?

We have a transport service available to active clients to assist getting between home and our clinic.

CAHS will transport passengers who:

  • Are patients of the service and have had a 715-health check within the last 12 months

  • Do not have a vehicle

  • Do not or cannot drive

  • Require assistance with mobility

  • Lack family or social network support

You can book in for this service when you make your appointment with us.

We are able to accommodate for Elders. If you are requiring any safety equipment (car seats etc) please give our reception staff as much notice as possible so we can make all transport bookings and arrangements.

  • Immunisations

    CAHS provides immunisation services for children, adolescents and adults, helping to protect individuals, families and the community from vaccine-preventable diseases. Immunisation is one of the safest and most effective ways to prevent serious illness and maintain good health throughout life.

    We can assist with:

    • Childhood immunisations under the National Immunisation Program

    • School-based catch-up vaccinations

    • Adult immunisations

    • Influenza (flu) vaccinations

    • COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters

    • Travel vaccination advice and referrals

    • Vaccination records and catch-up schedules

    Our team can help you understand which vaccinations are recommended for you and your family and ensure your immunisations remain up to date.

    This service is provided by our experienced nursing and clinical team and is free for eligible patients.

  • Blood Borne Diseases and Sexual Health

    CAHS provides a confidential, culturally appropriate blood borne virus and sexual health service for our community. Our team support clients with testing, treatment, education and ongoing care, helping to prevent illness and support long-term health and wellbeing.

    We understand that this can be a sensitive topic. Our service is delivered in a safe, respectful, and non-judgemental way, where you can feel comfortable asking questions and getting the support you need.

    Services are available through both clinic appointments and outreach, making it easier for our community to access care in a way that suits.

    CAHS provides a range of BBV and sexual health services, including:

    • Testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

    • Screening and management of blood borne viruses, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV

    • Point-of-care testing with fast results where available

    • Follow-up care and ongoing management

    • Education and advice on prevention and staying safe.
